For the first Makerspace Monday activity, I invite you to make a map of your heart. There are 4 steps. You don't have to do them all on Monday!
Step 1: Watch/listen
Click here to watch the video, My Map Book, by Sara Fanelli.
Think about what you hold in your heart. |
Step 2: Map your heart
Draw, paint, collage, create it digitally in Seesaw OR build it out of legos!
What Mrs. Colte did:
I used color pencils, paper, magazine clippings, and wrapping paper to make my collage.
I colored the heart first to hide white spots between the clippings.
I outlined the bird with a marker so it stood out more.
I tried to fill up my heart.
I cut & folded two strips of paper to make the word Happy pop out in 3D.

Mrs. Colte also made a digital collage of her heart in Seesaw by doing a drawing.

Step 4: Explore more: scroll down to watch another book. How does your heart feel? Does it change? What do you do with these different feelings?
As I was cutting, gluing and. mapping out my heart, I realized how lucky I am. My heart is full of happiness. The sound of the ocean, the warmth of a campfire, the crazy tastes of my preposterous pizza toppings make my heart happy. Sometimes, my heart gets sad. Sometimes my heart gets angry. That's ok. We can have a lot of different feelings. I love this book, In My Heart, by Jo Witek, because it reminds me that different feelings are okay! Click here to watch this book & think about how you're feeling today. Ask mom or dad, "how is your heart feeling?"
